Storage Conditions

Temperature: Storing THRIVE at a high temperature can significantly increase the speed that calories and vitamins will degrade over time. In the correct storage container, low-moisture foods such as THRIVE can be stored at room temperature or cooler (75 degrees Fahrenheit or lower) and remain nutritious and edible for years. Our stated shelf life assumes that the product will be stored in optimal conditions.

Humidity: The effects of humidity on a closed can are caused by heat and very similar to the effects of high temperature (see above). High humidity can corrode the cans and in some cases even cause the cans to leak. Areas with high humidity can reduce the opened shelf life of the product. As humidity varies with location please use your own discretion to prevent possible sickness from eating spoiled food.

Damaged Container: Minor dents in the center of the can are usually just a cosmetic issue. However, a can that has been dented near or on a seam can have a compromised air-tight seal and allow oxygen to enter the can. If this is the case we recommend using the dented can within the specified opened shelf life, rather than closed.

The best way to maintain the highest quality of your THRIVE products is to take care of them. If you intend on storing your food for the sealed shelf life, store the cans in a place that is not open to elements such as water, light, and air. Take care of it. Don't expose it unnecessarily to the elements. Also, be sure to keep the temperature and humidity low and even. Under these proper storing situations your THRIVE will maintain its delicious taste, natural coloring, and proper nutrients.

  1. A little too salty

Yes, I like the potato beads. They are very tasty and easy to prepare. However, I struggle with hypertension, and after cutting in half the amount of salt the instructions call for, they are a little too salty for me. So the next time I make this, I will omit the salt altogether and see how they taste. Otherwise, they are delicious! :)

  2. Love, Love, Love!!!!

My family absolutely loves the Potato Beads. They are so easy to make and dont need any additional salt or seasoning or milk. I normally ad more water than what the instructions call for to make more of a creamy potato. I have found that the easiest way is to boil a few cups of water in the microwave and then slowly pour the water into a bowl of potato beads and mix until I get the desired texture.....add a little bit of spinach or ground beef and you have a wonderful potato casserole!

  4. Good!

I just received my order and first thing we did was open the big can of potato pearls. I did the 2 cups as on the can. Here I needed a little bit more water. I mixed it like recipe said with butter, salt, but then added garlic powder and a sprinkle of Lawry's Seasoned Salt. Potatoes came out fantastic!

    MUCH better than potato flakes!

I'm going to try potato soup next, bacon bits, chives, cheese - for backpacking.

My son is in BOY SCOUTS and I am trying out recipes, for camping and hiking. To be able to make on his own from his CANTEEN stove (like survivor, bug out bag) - You tube has great tips on it.

I am using the freeze dried potato's, shortening (to make to go biscuits), butter, veggies. I am excited to make YUMMY food packets for him!

If you have any good recipes or ideas I am all ears! Springmom1@gmail.com

Note: Two cups potato pearls for three people is a little much, it would be good for 4 people. Or it's good for left overs.

Has anyone used this in bread? I make our own bread.

  5. So Creamy

I made these for the first time last night. We all loved them! My husband said they are better than the reday-made potatoes I usually buy. These were easy to make and very smooth and creamy. I do agree with the other poster....they were a little salty for my taste. Next time I will either decrease the salt or not add any.

  6. Great potatoes

My husband & I love these potatoes. They mix up quickly and have a great flavor. I did notice, though, that the measurements in the cooking instructions makes more than we can eat. It is more like 4 servings for us so cut it in half for now on.

  7. Change the recipe

My family really likes these potatoes, however I have had to make some changes when I make the recipe. These potatoes seem to have plenty of salt without adding any to the mix with the water, butter and milk. I do not add the salt called for in the recipe and I use salt-free butter.
